Looking for some new shoes. Hoping maybe my fellow Opponaughts have some advice.
For context, the dress code at my office is business casual but being an orthopedic practice athletic shoes are allowed. My two-year-old Adidas running shoes that I wear at daily are getting tired. The tread is worn down and the textile upper is starting to fray. They’re not dead, but they’re getting beyond the point of acceptable work attire. Time for replacements.
Thanks to Petrolicious, Piloti’s range of driving footwear has been on my radar for a while. I love the aesthetic of their Pistone X and Superstrada (which seems to have been recently discontinued), but $160+ is simply out of my price range. Is anyone aware of an affordable alternative that offers a similar aesthetic at a more accessible price point?
And I’m not looking for driving shoes specifically, I just happen to like the way Piloti’s shoes look.

Taking driving-specific shoes into account, meaning those with rolled heels, Puma has a decent selection. They’re not for everyone because a lot have major branding but some of the more basic designs are fairly affordable. I have a pair of fastcats for indoor racing and they’re great; driftcats are comfortable too.
Not sure if you specifically need the white bottoms but have a look.

PUMA has a line of motorsports shoes - have you checked them out? I have a few pairs of drift cat and future cat and they are pretty OK. Not really supportive for walking , but they hug the foot closely and give the heel lots of support during long drives. Plus, they are narrow enough I can use them to play the organ without trouble.

I’ve found that Fila shoes work for me, though Piloti would probably be better.

I’ve shopped some of their stuff. They either look nothing like what I want or they’re the same price as the Pilotis I like.

My puma driving shoes aren’t so great for walking or standing. Great for driving tho. Got mine at a close out store.
Just a fyi.

I basically sit a desk for 9 hours a day. I want something comfortable, but I’m not going to be walking long distances in them regularly .

Ah should be fine then.

Onitsuka Tigers? The driving shoe of choice of captain slow. They are quite cheap, and I love mine.

About to pull the trigger on another set of Cole-Haan driving moccasins myself. (Gunnison or Grant, nearly identical styles ) Different aesthetic, but probably compatible with your dress code.

I find approach shoes like the guide tennies to be good drivers..
One of my all time favourites were my Tsubo Xerics;
they aren’t $30 though..

Have you tried allbirds? They’re quite comfy.

Best answer. Outside of proper Italian driving shoes, Tigers are the best, because they have thin, grippy soles.

I’d look at pumas classic indoor soccer shoes, comfy as chucks but look much nicer and more professional. Cheap too.
The adidas classic indoor soccer shoe is another option that’s more subtle than a chuck, but not as nice as the above puma.

But they so narrow! And Asics runners are great! This makes me sad

That is the point of a driving shoe, to be narrow and light.

And they are super light.

Yeah, but they still have to fit. Narrow shows don't make my wide feet less wide.

I switch between my Vans and Sperrys, though neither have a rolled heel. I like driving in my vans, but they aren’t very comfy for walking.

i personally don’t like how sharp the back of the shoes is and how thick the sole is. to each their own. i have a pair of merrill naked train runners that have a rounded heal and tacky thin rubber sole that are excellent especially since i have big feet.

All-black Vans Sk8-His. Great for driving, just subtle enough to pass at an office.
